Resource of the Week
Grant Opportunities
Starting this month all the way into the new year, many organizations are offering grants, residencies, and fellowships for creatives and artists. These are great ways to continue educating yourself within your area of focus creative industry while exploring new ideas, mediums, processes and more. While I was studying in university I always thought these were meant only for the "artists", like painters or performers but that is not the case. Designers, illustrator, developers, and others alike are also encouraged to apply and submit applications.
This is a great opportunity, especially with the status of the current job market, to give yourself some time while also being compensated to create.

Something Gorgeous
Gorgeous Paper Sculptures of Ocean Life Threatened by Pollution
Tina Kraus creates intricate paper sculptures, highlighting the beauty and diversity of ocean life and emphasizing the impact of pollution and climate crisis on marine species. Her Paper Life! Ocean series depicts marine creatures affected by pollution, like a hermit crab in a tin can and a squid in a fishing net. Her artworks aim to be increasingly lifelike, and an exhibition of her Ocean series is planned for next year at MAKE Southwest.
While these gorgeous sculptures intend to direct your attention to our increasing climate crisis problem, it is hard not to recognize the amazing attention detail Tina has put into every single one of these sculptures. My fascination with the beauty of the sea continues to grow as a few editions ago I shared these beautiful crustaceous ceramics by Araceli Adams here.
Portfolio Of The Week
Quality over Function
Wanda Arca is a freelance motion designer with a pretty dope portfolio of work. She is using Adobe Portfolio which is a platform I talk about a lot on my website and TikTok for a number of reasons. I love Wanda's portfolio because it is a great example of how the quality of your work will always be THE thing to standout first when anyone views your portfolio website. Sure, I am not a big fan of the current theme Wanda has chosen for her design portfolio website (look here for my favorite themes) but it doesn't matter when you're able to show a bunch of visually interesting work that intrigues me to click and learn more about you.
I really enjoy how Wanda has created animated thumbnails for all her projects on her homepage to draw me in. Within each project she has included a good mix of static illustrations, sketches, and animated videos to showcase her skill.
Portfolio Rating: 7.9/10

Creative Finds
Your Brain on Food by Mother and Nexus Design Studio
Mother's LA office and Nexus Design Studio collaborate to launch a wonderfully animated campaign for Postmates, including 6 shorts visualizing what our brains might look like on some of our favorite foods. My favorite might be the donut one, but also somewhat twisted.
Which one is your favorite?
Erbert Brand Identity by Auge Design
While many health-conscious fast-casual restaurants are adopting a similar aesthetic, I really liked the logotype created for Erbet. I particularly admire how the icons share a distinctive funkiness with the letterforms, adding some character to the overall brand identity.
Ensemble Travel by Cossette
I am loving visual refresh developed for Ensemble which is a travel agent group. The limited color palette and use of illustrations over cliche travel photos you'll see with most travel companies elevate the brand. This approach imparts a touch of luxury to the various touchpoints, setting it apart in the industry.
One Tok
If Oreo was a startup
I mean, if there was a tech startup named Oreo and had this logo, I would totally want to work for them. Sasha Birukoff shares tons of work like this on twitter and definitely would recommend the follow.
One Lesson
Good Company Can Increase Creativity
To be honest I have been traveling all month and enjoying time with friends while working a little here and there. Maybe that is the lesson for this week? Take the time and make the effort to see the people you care about that make you feel like you. I feel recharged by by the conversations, laughs, and good times I've had over the last month and ready to go back to my home base in a week with my head down focused on some of my goals.
I hope you are feeling inspired to make some cool shi\*t this week. If not, send me a reply and let's chat.
