Resource of the Week

Framer

I have been focusing a lot on helping designers out with their portfolios in the last few months.

What I see the most is that the current platforms out there require too much learning. Most of the designers I speak with aren't super familiar with web lingo and learning a platform takes them away from focusing on the most important to a portfolio. The CONTENT!

Whenever someone asks me what platform is the best for making a portfolio website? I have suggested a few different platforms but recently I have been recommending Framer the most.

Why?

Working in Framer is like working in Adobe Illustrator. You design and build your website in an artboard just like you would in Figma and then publish directly from Framer to the web.

Not only do I think Framer is an amazing tool and will become very very popular soon. I am also building some resources to help designers learn it faster and build their portfolio website on it so stay tuned for that coming soon.

For now, I highly recommend creating an account and playing around with Framer.

Something Gorgeous

Ikea Bomb Shelters by Filip Filkovic Philatz

The absolute choke hold that Ikea has on me is unbelievable. So much so that I thought these ads made by Filip Filkovic Philatz using Midjourney were real.

I thought this was a great example of how you could use Ai tools like Midjourney to assist in creating fun passion projects to beef up your portfolio.

The end results are absolutely something gorgeous.

Portfolio Of The Week

Mark Hurrell

This week's portfolio of the week goes to Mark Hurrell. A designer based in London and head of ThinkMake Studio.

There were three things about Mark's portfolio website that really stuck out to me. First, the simple type forward approach. Not too fancy but not lacking content. Second, the use of subtle page interactions. Like when the table header sticks to the top of the browser as you go through Mark's project section. Or the clever pacing used when scrolling through Mark's about me section. Third, I really really liked how Mark has sized his projects using T-shirt sizes. S, M, L, and XL signifying the amount of involvement and content in each of the projects. An interesting way to think of how to present work that you are proud of but may not be as in-depth as a full case study should be on your portfolio website.

Portfolio Score: 7.5

Not sure what platform is used for Mark's portfolio but this could easily be built in Webflow or Framer.

ONE TOK

Victoria Skolimowska

I wanted to share Victoria's work for this week's one tok because while her work is lovely, the way she speaks about her thinking and process is one I wish more designers would take notes from. Her profile showcases every aspect of who she is as a designer and as someone who likes to work with creatives I find from social media, I would not hesitate to work with her if ever needed.

One Thing I Learned

Don't forget sunscreen!

I'll keep this week short and simple. Don't forget to wear sunscreen even if you plan on staying in the shade. You can still get sunburn.

I am currently as red as a lobster after spending the entire day under and umbrella...

Please send aloe.
