Something Gorgeous

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Vitra Color Frame Mirror by Julie Richoz

Vitra Color Frame Mirror by Julie Richoz

Julie Richoz's Colour Frame Mirror for Vitra is a blend of childlike playfulness and sophisticated design. Drawing inspiration from wooden building blocks, Richoz combines color, shape, and material to create a functional yet visually captivating piece. The lacquered wood frame, with its gently rounded edges and angled cuts, adds depth and character while providing a subtle shelf. Available in multiple sizes and color combinations, these mirrors can be arranged to form different compositions on any wall. Richoz's approach to color pairing results in a gorgeous and modern aesthetic that's sure to have you feeling your most creative when checking yourself out.

Portfolio of the Week

You Can Do A Lot With One Page

Sam George

Sam George

Do you really need another page? I have caught myself asking this to a lot of my website design clients. And more recently I am seeing a lot of designers ask themselves this when it comes to their portfolio websites. It might sound lazy and crazy. But why does someone visiting your portfolio website need click into another page to get information that you want them to know? Why should they do work?

Sam George is a design lead at Work & Co based in Brooklyn, NY. I believe his portfolio website follows this thinking. As creatives, the most important thing to know about us is our skill and our quality of work. Why should we force visitors to navigate our websites to find that? Why shouldn't they just be able to find it as quickly and easily as possible? This trend of condensing a portfolio website into less pages is something I have noted in previous newsletters. Sam has gone a step further bringing entire project galleries to the homepage of his portfolio website.

Things to note about Sam's portfolio website. Sam has a very clear heading of what he does at the top of his portfolio website. Each of Sam's projects have a concise overview description of what the project entailed and how he worked with the team and client. The most important thing I think about Sam's portfolio website is the number of images he has included for each project. Sam's first project includes more than 10 images showcasing the work. The projects below that include anywhere from 4-6 images. This allows visitors to get a complete view of Sam's completed work. Sam's portfolio website is great example of why making sure your project images are clear and presented in a way that tells a story is important when it comes to your portfolio website.

One Lesson

A Place for Portfolio Inspiration

A Place for Portfolio Inspiration

In the last few weeks I have been working on a new project over on my website callthedesignguy.com. I talk about portfolios a lot between this newsletter, The Portfolio Squeeze, Youtube, and TikTok. I know that a solid portfolio can give you an amazing jumpstart when it comes to a successful career in the creative industry.

So I have decided to create a gallery completed to dedicated all the best portfolios I find across the web. You can view an example of this here. It's not completely finished as I am still uploading some of the initial examples. But hope to have that completed sometime soon in the next week.

Each portfolio example will have share the platform it was created with, typefaces used, color palette, and of course a link to the creative. I want to showcase these examples so that you and any other creatives can have a central place for portfolio inspiration.

More to come soon!

PS. If you have signed up for a portfolio review with me. I am slowly working through them and have not forgotten! Thank you for your patience.
